Historical Note:

Kenneth G. Peterson served as Dean of Library Affairs in Morris Library, Southern Illinois University Carbondale, from 1976-1991.  Previous positions include Associate University Librarian at the University of Virginia from 1968-1976, Librarian at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary from 1962-1967, and service as a minister from 1949-1962.

He was raised in Brooklyn, New York and received a B.A. in History at Drew University in 1946, a Master of Divinity at Yale University in 1949, Master of Library Science at University of California Berkeley in 1963, and a Ph.D. from UC Berkeley in 1968.  While at Southern Illinois, Morris Library saw significant expansion in its operations.  Ken authored many publications, including a history of The University of California Library at Berkeley 1900-1945 (1970), and held numerous offices in a variety of professional associations.  He died on February 26, 2013.
