Historical Note: Mohammed el-Nawawy earned his PhD in Journalism from Southern Illinois University in 1999. His thesis was titled, The Role of Western Correspondents and News in the Resolution of the Arab-Israeli Conflict: Reporting from Egypt and Israel. el-Nawawy's research interests include Middle East news and views, Islam and the West, the freedom of speech, and newspapers in American society. He has taught as an assistant professor at the University of West Florida, Stonehill College, and Georgia State College, as well as a Knight-Crane Endowed chair and associate professor at Queens University in Charlotte, North Carolina. While on sabbatical from Queens University, el-Nawawy taught as a visiting research scholar at Zayed University in the United Arab Emirates.
