George J. Mavigliano retired from Southern Illinois University Carbondale's School of Art and Design in January 1997. He is married to renee Mavigliano who also taught art at John A. Logan College until she retired in January 2008. George Mavigliano's research interests focus on federally funded art in the 1930s, on which he has published and curated a show of federally produced art at the Southern Illinois University Museum. Past lectures include the Art Institute of Chicago for the National New Deal Preservation Association Conference entitled “the New Deal: Past, Present and Future,” a lecture at Western Illinois University Art Gallery in conjunction with a federal art exhibition and, most recently, at SIUC. The title of his presentation was “The Individuals Who Helped Create Federal Funding for the Arts during the 1930’s.”
Along with his research interests, George continues to bind books and fabricate art boxes. He also does minor book repair.
