Historical Note: Count Geoffrey Potocki de Montalk writer, scholar, private printer and poet --- left Poland in 1934 with much of the Polish aristocracy. He has resided variously in New Zealand, where he began to publish poetry; the United Kingdom, where he was jailed for a period in the late 1930s in connection with Fascist activities; and France, his home for the greater portion of this correspondence, where he established at Draguignan his private Melissa Press. He has published essays, poetry, memoirs and translations on his own as well as in commercial publications.
