Historical Note: Born and raised in West Frankfort, Ill., Kenneth J. Gray served as a helicopter pilot in World War II and owned a car dealership in West Frankfort before being elected as a Democrat to the U. S. Congress in 1954.  He served in the U. S. House of Representatives until retiring in 1974.  From 1974 to 1984 he worked as a consultant and lobbyist. He ran and was elected again to the House in 1984, serving until 1989.  He continues to reside in West Frankfort.
