Name: Franz, John J. (1894-1976)
Historical Note: John J. Franz was a native of Buffalo, New York, the son of German immigrants. He was a private in the 306th Infantry when he was captured at the Battle of Bazoches, France, on August 27, 1918. He was held at the Rastatt prison camp in Germany, and listed among the prisoners there in a New York Times article of October 25, 1918, which gave his home address as 210 May Street, Buffalo. Franz returned to France in December 1918, and sailed for the United States on April 17, 1919.
