Name: Arnold, Seth J. (1886-1974)

Historical Note: Born in 1886 to a prominent Rochester, N. Y., family, Seth J. Arnold served in the 11th Engineer Battalion, organized at the outbreak of war in April, 1917 as the 1st Reserve Engineers, and sent to France in July, 1917 as part of the first contingent of American forces in World War I.  At the Battle of Cambrai in November, 1917, the battalion incurred the first casualties of any American unit in the war.  Arnold later lived in Atlanta and in Orlando, Fla., until his death in 1974.
