Historical Note:

Nancy Clendenin Mann (1829-1912) and John Preston Mann (1822-1908) lived and are buried in Rockwood, Illinois.  John, sometimes called Preston, was an itinerant salesman among other trades who served just over three years (Sept. 1861 to Oct. 1864) in the 5th Illinois Cavalry, rising to 2nd Lieutenant in Company K and then Commissary of the regiment.

John Preston Mann was a prolific letter writer who also kept detailed journals of his wartime activities.
