Robert Tilly served in the German army during World War I. He was a 2nd Lieutenant in Field Artillery Regiment 54, Unit 3. During the war, he served most of his time in Poland. He also served in what is now Lithuania and in what is now Saxony in Germany.
Robert and his family lived in Cologne, Germany. Robert had a good friend, Ludwig, who wrote to him while on vacation in the summer of 1922. There is also a picture of a woman named Minni in the collection, possibly Robertâ€™s sister.
