Historical Note: After getting his Ph. D from Kent State University, Richard F. Peterson joined the SIU-C English Department faculty in 1969 as an Assistant Professor, attaining the rank of Professor in 1980. Peterson became Chair of the English Department in 1986. His teaching interests and specialties are Modern British, Irish and American literatures, and some of the topics on which Peterson has taught courses are: Yeats, Joyce, the modern novel, and the short story. Dr. Peterson's research interests are Modern British, Irish and American literatures, especially James Joyce, Mary Lavin, and W.B. Yeats. Peterson has published books on Lavin, Yeats, and Joyce, Mary Lavin and W.B. Yeats, and numerous articles and chapters in books on a variety of authors, including Joyce, Yeats, Lavin, Frank O'Connor, William Faulkner, and others.
