Strachan, W.J. (Walter John), 1903-1994. | Southern Illinois University Special Collections Research Center
Walter John Strachan, born at Hull in 1903 and educated at Hymer College and Cambridge University, taught language at Bishop's Stortford College, and published two books of poetry: Moments of Time in 1947 and The Season's Pause in 1950. He has also translated many French, German, and Italian authors into English, including Cocteau, Bernanos and Hesse, and has edited texts by Camus, Duras and others.
Miss Cunard and Strachan shared a common interest in French poetry which, not long after she regretfully declined a poem Strachan submitted for Poems for France in 1944, brought them together.
