Name: Franckenstein, Joseph.
Historical Note: Joseph Franckenstein was an educated and cosmopolitan Austrian diplomat who married Kay Boyle in 1943. He worked for the U.S. Department of State but was deprived of his job during the McCarthy era. He died of a brain tumor in October, 1963, after spending the last decade of his life fighting against McCarthy allegations about his loyalty to his adopted country, the United States.
