Historical Note: Sheila Ryan received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Literature and Philosophy in 1975 from the University of Dallas. She returned to school in 1982 to receive her Masters in Library and Archival Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. After graduation, Ryan worked as a manuscripts cataloger at the Chicago History museum then as the Goodman Theatre archivist and exhibit curator before coming to Southern Illinois. In 1986, Ryan became the curator of manuscripts and assistant university archivist at Morris Library. She held this position until 1991. After leaving Southern Illinois University, she held various archival jobs in the Chicago area. Ryan is currently a researcher, archivist, and interpreter for Sole Proprietorship, as well as an interpretor at Apple River Fort State Historic Site.
