Carbondale Morning Etude Club | Southern Illinois University Special Collections Research Center
Name: Carbondale Morning Etude Club
Historical Note: The Morning Etude Club was founded in 1950 as a Senior Club in the Illinois Federation of Music Clubs. It was founded “to provide an outlet for a group of women who wanted to keep their musical skills from becoming rusty.” In the beginning, the club’s sole activity was musical performance by its members. Over time, it broadened its scope to include sponsorship of an annual series of children’s concerns; annual performances in the Jackson County, Illinois public schools; an acquiring and donating stringed instruments and recordings to Jackson County schools for educational purposes.
