Historical Note:

Elbert Earl Simon was born on March 21, 1938 in Kerrville, Tennessee.  He attended Attucks High School, University High School, graduating in 1956, and Southern Illinois University.

Simon was employed at the Good Luck Glove Company, as director of Carbondale Employment & Resource Center and as postmaster for the United States Postal Service.  Additionally, he was active in the community including experience in the Student Non-Violent Freedom Committee, as a trainer and counselor for Narcotic Addict Rehabiliation Coordination Organization, president and member of the Carbondale branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, as a consultant for the Illinois Commission on Human Relations and as Civil Rights Bureau Chief for the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Simon passed away on December 6, 2010 in Carbondale, Illinois.
