This collection is mostly focused on the research interests of Otis B. Young, which usually concern physics and radio. The collection is comprised of papers and correspondence of: the Synton Radio National Professional Fraternity; military concerns, such as the Civil Aeronautics Administration, the Veteran's Administration, War Surplus Property, and Radiological Civil Defense; Young's university activites, including the Physics Club, Sigma Pi Sigma (National Physics Honor Society), the Cooperative Capacitor Research Project papers, and other writings by Young and others. The collection also includes photographs, mostly of Young, his friends, and associates, especially those from the amateur radio club in which he participated.

Biographical Note

Otis Bigelow Young was born in Dodge Center, Minnesota, in 1899 and came to Southern Illinois University as a professor of physics in 1929. In 1938 Professor Young became the chairman of the Physics Department.
