Scope and Contents of the Materials

This collection of Paul Powell materials was created by Curtis G. Small, newspaper editor and political supporter of Powell. The collection largely consists of correspondence, newspaper clippings, and photographs dealing with state and local politics which Powell sent to Small between 1948 and 1970 for use in publicity releases and campaign literature.  It also includes correspondence between Small and Powell, and Powell-related correspondence Small conducted immediately after Powell's death.

This collection includes original and photocopied correspondence, from many prominent political figures, including Richard J. Daley, Paul Douglas, Otto Kerner, Scott W. Lucas, Adlai Stevenson, William Stratton, and Harry S. Truman.

Biographical Note

Curtis G. Small was the editor of the Harrisburg Record and a political supporter of Paul Powell.  He handled much of the political advertising for Powell's campaigns both for state representative and for secretary of state.
