Scope and Contents of the Materials

The Thomas E. Hammill Photograph Collection consists of photographs, slides, and negatives depicting Southern Illinois University Carbondale during his time as a photography student from 1968-1972.  Several color slides document the 1969 burning of Old Main and boarded-up businesses resulting from the May 1970 student Vietnam War protests.  Other topics include campus buildings (Brush Towers, Wilson Hall, Morris Library, SIU Arena, and barracks), gymnastics, Thompson Woods, basketball, soccer, and the 1970 homecoming parade.

Biographical Note

Thomas E. Hammill was a Southern Illinois University photography student from 1968-1972.
