Scope and Contents of the Materials

The Cinema and Photography Photograph Collection consists of photographs created by Southern Illinois University students, primarily for course 418 "Documentary Photography" taught by William Horrell.  There is estimated to be roughly 1,000 images, the bulk of which are dated 1972-1982 with some undated.  The photographs are of Southern Illinois, covering numerous subjects throughout the region including local towns, agriculture and farms, houses, people, industry, and cemeteries.  A few folders contain photographs taken by Gary Kolb, former SIU faculty in the College of Mass Communication and Media Arts.
