Loose and bound diary segments covering parts or most of 1862-1865.  One or more letters and diary fragments with other Civil War related papers.

Collection Historical Note

Robert Hopkins Davison was born in 1834 in Ohio and enlisted in August 1862 in Mattoon, Illinois, mustering into Company E, 97th Illinois Infantry.  The regiment served in the Vicksburg campaign and in Louisiana and Alabama before it was mustered out at Galveston, Texas in July 1865.  Davison arrived back in Mattoon at the end of August, settled in Jasper County, Illinois, and died in 1916.
