Scope and Contents of the Materials

This collection is a vast, eclectic mix of historical documents and personal papers collected or written by Lona Harper Tyner. There are a number of families represented in the collection: Tyners, Harpers, Hampton-Dunn, Snyder, Stafford, among others. Also in this collection are Lona Tyners' research notes, including a handwritten excerpt written by Lona of an excerpt from George Washington's diary. Finally there are large amounts of miscellaneous local history information including information on historical societies, maps, and source material by various writers and collectors.

Biographical Note

Lona Tyner was born June 19, 1914, in Williamson County. She married Eugene Tyner, and had two daughters, one of whom died. Lona was very involved in local history and wrote "The Slighted: An Index to the War History of Williamson County". Her husband preceded her in death in 1991. She died on Jan. 30, 2007, in Franklin Hospital in Benton.
