Scope and Contents of the Materials
This collection consists mainly of letters to Frank M. Alexander from relatives and those seeking to hire him as a pastor. There is also a great deal of documentation of a legal dispute between Frank Alexander and his nephew Albert Kell regarding a tenant agreement between them. This dispute went on for over seven years and the collection contains the original complaint, Alexander's statement, and legal documents. The collection also contains personal papers, including an autograph book and photographs.
Biographical Note
Frank Alexander was a Presbyterian pastor working in different parts of the country, but had a long standing parish in Murphysboro at the turn of the century. Previous to this he was the first Presbyterian pastor for Carbondale's First Presbyterian Church. He had relatives in Salem, Illinois where he also owned a farm.
