The Frank R. Paine collection contains papers, photographs, and motion picture films relating to both the artistic and professional activities of Paine's multifaceted career as a filmmaker from 1950 to 1998. The bulk of the materials date from about 1956-1976. The collection is arranged into 5 series: 1) Documents for Film Production; 2) Professional Associations and Activities; 3)Teaching Career, Title VII, Personal Correspondence; 4) Photographs; and 5) Films. Series 1-4 are described in greater detail in the collection inventory.
Items related to film making include: documents related to the writing and production of films such as A Moral Tale, A Guide for Secretaries, and the award winning piece, Motion Picture (both revised and final script copies can be found here), correspondence, notes on direction, and author's memos about his films, Paine's production of documentary and educational films during his association with the University of Mississippi, 1956-1960.
Documents related to Paine's professional associations and activities include: papers related to his affiliations with numerous film festivals between circa 1958 and 1966 including general correspondence, speeches, presentations and articles dating from circa 1963 to 1976.
Documents relating to his teaching career include: personal correspondence with filmmakers, friends, and colleagues, Title VII Media Research and Dissemination grant documents, National Council for Arts Education, and the Library of Congress copyright regulation for filmmakers.
