Scope and Contents: This collection consists of the record of the Carbondale chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People accumulated between the years of 1983 to 2019. A large portion of the collection consists of meeting minutes and treasurer Information, mainly between 2000 and 2018. There is also correspondence among various organizatiional officials, including national officials, and with members of the community and the city of Carbondale. A significant amount of the collection is related to the annual banquets and Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfasts, including school essays and info booklets. A portion of the collection focuses on a discrimination lawsuit involving the branch, Hardin Davis, and the local school district #95, including legal proceedings, correspondence, and court documents. The collection only covers the branch's recent history.
