Scope and Contents: The Thomas E. Bell Sr. collection consists pimarily of funeral programs of African Americans in Southern Illinois, most from Carbondale. The collection was begun by Bell's mother, Mary E. Bell, and is being continued by Bell. Some programs are accompanied by a newspaper obituary. Occasionally only a newspaper obituary is present. Morris Library has only copies of the programs; the originals remain with Bell. Other items include church anniversary and ordination programs.
