Scope and Contents: The Ronald W. Kirby collection consists of materials collected by Ronald Kirby for his research related to African-American families, churches and schools in Colp and Dewmaine, Illinois, from 1900 to 2017. The papers consists of photographs, newspaper clippings, census records and other documents downloaded from ancestry.com, Kirby's research notes and summaries, and church and school records. Also included are correspondence and research related to projects in Colp and Dewmaine in which Kirby was involved, including the Colp Playground opening, the Coal Miner's Monument, the Dr. Andrew Springer memorial and Veterans Monument, recognition of the 1941 Herrin-Colp basketball champions, and giving equal opportunity rights for African American workers.
