Most of this University Archives Collection focuses heavily on Dr. Sarvela's professional career in health care management, chiefly at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. A few of his articles were written while Sarvela was program evaluator for Ford Aerospace and Communications Corporation and as a Fellow on the American Council on Education at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, but the vast majority of writings, research projects and presentations were done while at SIUC in Health Education.
The many (130) conference presentations Dr. Sarvela delivered, both singly and as part of a collegial group, at national and international venues, were often invited papers or posters. He was a visiting professor at the University of Cologne, and also lectured in Finland, homeland of his great-grandparents.
Sarvela's research, writings, and presentations resulted in more than $4 million in grants and contracts for SIUC as well as regional and state agencies. Researchers can examine these writings and presentations, along with some of Dr. Sarvela's teaching materials for classes he taught at SIUC.
