John Franklin McCartney family papers, 1841-1962 | Southern Illinois University Special Collections Research Center
The McCartney Family Papers collection consists of family history and genealogical material, business correspondence and financial records, including deeds and mortgages, personal correspondence, photographs, and printed material such as record books and notebooks. The dates range from the late 1840’s in the case of a few township recording books to correspondences in 1962.
Most interesting to the researcher is possibly the personal and business correspondence of John Franklin McCartney, the patriarch of this Massac County family—newspaper editor, attorney, judge, and bank president, as well as the correspondences from varied family members and friends to Hope McCartney Jackson, who also worked at the State Bank of Metropolis. The bulk of personal correspondences are to Mrs. Jackson and were saved by Hope and her sons.
