Scope and Contents: The collection consists of Sidney Ratner's papers documenting his personal life, career as an intelligence analyst, teaching as a university professor, and writings as a philosopher and economist. The majority of the materials consists of correspondence with colleagues, manuscript drafts of his scholarly work, and World War II strategic reports related to his work with the United States government. The collection also includes manuscripts by scholars other than Ratner, books and offprints from Ratner's personal library, records of his involvement in professional conferences, course syllabi and teaching notes, photographs of Ratner's family and friends, and personal biographical materials. Other noteworthy items are photographs of Europe during World War II, photographs of John Dewey and Arthur Bentley, and correspondence with Albert Camus, Bill Clinton, Albert Einstein, Felix Frankfurter, Oliver Wendell Holmes, John F. Kennedy, Margaret Mead, Robert Oppenheimer, Willard Van Orman Quine, Bertrand Russell, and George Santayana.
