Scope and Contents: The Center for Advanced Friction Studies (CAFS) records document the center's research pertaining to friction, primarily in the automobile and aerospace industries. The corporation files contain correspondence, invoices, grant funding documents, and related papers concerning collaborative research projects between CAFS and the corporations. Some of these files include correspondence from the Southern Illinois University Materials Technology Center. The industrial sponsors files contain records on corporate donations to support CAFS research. The reports constitute the bulk of the collection and detail CAFS research activities. The reports are in both paper and compact disk format. The Industrial Advisory Board files contain minutes, invoices, correspondence, and presentations of CAFS research to the IAB. The National Science Foundation records primarily concern grant proposals and reports on research.
