Scope and Contents: The Charles H. Lange papers consists primarily of oral history transcripts, corresponding reel-to-reel audio tapes, and photographs documenting rural life and culture in Washington County, Illinois. The oral histories focus on religion and churches throughout the county, and the photographs depict aerial views of Washington County towns and farmland, as well as individual buildings and houses. Lange's colleauge Melvin S. Brooks also created some of the recordings and transcripts. These materials are likely the result of a Pilot Study of Washington County Research Project, and predominantly date 1956-1957.
