Scope and Contents: The John I. Wright Collection documents the spans of Wright's educational, wartime, familial, and civic careers. The collection consists of: Wright’s writings – papers, research and lecture notes, speeches, and correspondence; his awards, certificates, diplomas, and membership cards; primary source documents concerning slavery and farming in Illinois; civic documents such as reports, brochures, and city plats; newspaper clippings concerning his career as both professor and mayor; a collection of books from his library; and papers written by his students. Because of his research interests, the collection also includes resources on Illinois history, particularly concerning slavery and farming economics.
