Scope and Contents: This collection consists of the papers of William Gibbon Lewis from 1917 to 1919. The papers include correspondence, postcards, photographs and newspaper clippings. The collection documents Lewis's military service in the 107th Engineers of the 32nd Division of the United States Army. The correspondence consists of letters from Lewis to his family and documents his concern for his family back home, his time in France during the war and Germany after the war, and the YMCA (Young Men's Christian Association). These letters also reflect the hardship of war including marching long distances, weather and food shortages, but he does not discuss specific battles.
