Scope and Contents: Approximately sixty letters, cards, and papers from the foreign service career of Margaret Helen McMahon, written from postings in Tokyo, Ankara, Lisbon, and Tehran. The earliest letter is from 1943, written during her training as U.S. Navy WAVE. Most of the correspondence dates from the mid to late 1950s, and consists of letters from McMahon (known as Helen) to her relatives in Gary, Indiana. The last two folders contain correspondence and documents pertaining to her death in April 1960 from viral hepatitis, contracted during her travels overseas.
