Scope and Contents: A collection of 31 letters and postcards of D.H. Lawrence to British artist Mark Gertler, from St. Ives, Cornwall; Newbury, Berkshire; Wirksworth, Derbyshire; Paris; New York; Taos and Santa Fe, New Mexico; and Florence, Italy. The bulk of the letters originate from the English counryside during World War I where Lawrence writes about his possible military service and dislike of the war, health and financial problems, Gertler's work, and mutual friends.
