Krywanski Family World War I correspondence

Brief Description: This collection consists of 57 letters involving family and friends of three brothers in the Krywanski family of Ionia, Michigan, serving in the armed forces during World War I.  Most of the letters are to or from George J., Michael, and Thomas Krywanski; correspondents include sisters Helen and Anna Krywanski, as well as friends from Ionia and nearby Michigan towns.  Subjects include daily routine and training activities at Camp Custer, Battle Creek, Michigan, and Camp MacArthur, Waco, Texas; and efforts of family and friends to boost morale and make servicemen more comfortable through care packages and frequent letters.

Biographical Note for Krywanski, George J. (1896-1958) : A native of Ionia, Michigan, George J. Krywanski served in Company D, 126th Infantry, and trained at Camp Custer in Battle Creek, Michigan, and Camp MacArthur in Waco, Texas.  He married Anna Schnable in 1920, and is buried at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Ionia.
