Brief Description:

One pocket diary, approximately 2.5 by 4.5 inches, covering the period February to July, 1916, written by unidentified member of British artillery unit in the Ypres sector.  Entries cover 45 pages, typically one sentence or less, chiefly brief descriptions of heavy shelling on both sides.  Author wounded in June, 1916, and recovering in hospital as of last entry.  Celebrates 28th birthday in action on May 16, 1916.  Mentions visiting and corresponding with a woman named Kit.

Accompanied by a 1949-50 driving licence for West Ham Borough issued to James Chalmer Stone, Stratford.
