Scope and Contents: The Thomas Knox collection consists of proceedings of a General Court Martial Convened at Young's Point, Louisiana, February 3-6, 1863. Thomas Knox, news correspondent for the New York Herald, accompanied the Union troops for the first Vicksburg campaign of November 1862. Knox wrote a scathing critique of General William T. Sherman's leadership. Sherman accused Knox of giving intelligence to the enemy, either directly or indirectly. Also included are documents and medals from Knox receiving the decoration of the Order of the White Elephant of Siam.
