The Harwood Family papers contain material concerning the James Grizzard family and their descendants, among them the Harwood Family, including personal correspondence between James Grizzard and his children, dated after the Civil War.
The bulk of the material in this collection concerns James C. Bandy, also known as James H. Barry, a grandson of James Grizzard, and a Union soldier (U.S. 6th Regiment) born in Nashville, Tennessee. This material includes documents from the Civil War concerning James Bandy's service in the Army, pension certificates, and correspondence pertaining to the settlement of his estate. This last set of correspondence is between Miss Ada Harwood and her brother Sam E. Harwood of Carbondale, Illinois, and James A. Neuman, a lawyer of Nashville, Tennessee.
Other materials include post-Civil War documents and a list of Ada Harwood's maternal relatives, tracing her ancestry back to Jeremiah Grizzard, 1750-1831. A photograph of James C. Bandy and one of Sam E. Harwood are also among the contents of the collection.
