Scope and Contents: The Maude Smith Meyer collection documents several aspects of Midwestern life in the years leading up to the First World War. Correspondence, postcards, and photographs detail the lives of an Illinois couple, architecture found in Midwestern cities, and the silica mining process during the early 20th century. The collection also contains nine production photographs related to silica mining as well as a certificate awarded to Maude Smith in 1908 granting her four years' education at any Illinois state university.
