John Esplen Falconer Paton (1894-1973) was born in Chertsey, Surrey, southwest of London, and educated at Emanuel School, London, 1908-11. Paton served in France and Belgium in early 1916, Mesopotamia, 1916-17, India, 1917-19, Afghanistan and Waziristan, 1921-24. He was promoted to captain in 1919 and major in 1932. Lieutenant-Colonel Paton was awarded the OBE in 1960 for services to the Over-Seas League to Commonwealth visitors. Author: Aaron M. Lisec
