Gustav Kirchner papers, 1909-1940 | Southern Illinois University Special Collections Research Center
This collection includes 119 postcards and letters, all written in German about Kirchner's time in the German army. The majority of them were written between 1914 and 1918; however there are some from1909, 1910, and the 1920s - 1940s. The collection also includes 12 pieces of ephemera, including pictures and documents.
Most of the letters and cards are written to Gustav Kirchner from his parents, his wife, and other relatives. In the cards, they discuss what is taking place in their everyday lives. The pictures in the collection are mostly of family, but a few are of military scenes. Gustav's sister, Kathe, and her children are in most of the family pictures.
