Scope and Contents: This collection consists of John Howie's papers. The papers include essays written by Howie, in addition to his doctoral dissertation titled "The Shaping of a Naturalistic Perspective" on philosopher Henry Nelson Wieman. In addition, there are records of correspondence, a review of Wieman that appeared in The Crane Review in Winter/Spring 1963 by Robert W. Gardiner, and a hand-written manuscript of "The Shaping of a Naturalistic Perspective" by Howie. Additional materials in the collection include a bibliography of Wieman composed by Howie, as well as a number of essays written by various individuals, including an essay written by Wieman, "Intellectual Autobiography."
