Biographical Note for Civilian Conservation Corps (U.S.) Company 1657 : Civilian Conservation Corps Company 1657 was assigned to Giant City State Park near Makanda, Illinois.  Under the supervision of the National Park Service, the company undertook such projects as road construction, landscaping, foot trails, guardrails, and general forestry improvements.  This unit assisted with this project for five months in 1934.
