Scope and Contents: The bulk of the Robert Allyn papers is comprised of administrative records of the first president of Southern Illlinois University. This includes a modest collection of correspondence, reports to trustees and state legislators, as well as a more extensive collection of speeches and sermons. Box 3 includes a few folders of geneaological materials and photographs relating to Robert Allyn and his family. Boxes 4 and 5 contain volumes of "Manuscripts of Examination" that were books showcasing Southern Illinois Normal University training school student work, displayed at the Centennial International Exhibition of 1876 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
