Scope and Contents: The collection consists of the letters of Evert W. Steffens from 1942 to 1944. The papers include personal correspondence and various items such as letters of reference, telegrams, change of address forms, United States Post Office receipts, an application for family allowances, dental x-rays, and two poems. The letters span the time from September 1942 to October 1944. Within that time Steffens moved from bases in Illinois, Alabama, Arkansas, and Texas. The majority of the letters are addressed to his wife, and are accounts of daily life in camp. There are also brief references to training and military exercises.
