Sociology Department, Sociological Quarterly | Southern Illinois University Special Collections Research Center
The Sociology Department was formed in 1936 with R. D. Bowden as the first Chair. Sociology was an original component of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. In May 1970, social welfare courses were split from the sociology department and made a Department of Social Welfare. Social Welfare became a unit of the College of Human Resources in 1973 (see RG 22-11). The Regional Planning Office, headed by Edward C. McDonagh, of the Sociology Department was active in the early 1940's.
This collection primarily consists of records relating to Sociological Quarterly, the serial publication of the Sociology Department.
